Beating party pitfalls
Beating the Party pitfalls.
Had a bit too much to drink? here’s how to banish the thumping head without getting a bigger waistline. Most of us have experienced the symptoms of hangover, sickness, headache, dehydration but it is the hangover munchies that do the lasting damage if you are watching your weight. That empty sumach feeling happens because your liver is dealing with the alcohol instead of releasing sugar into your blood stream. If you want to make sure your hangover does not wreck the healthy eating plan here’s a few alternative suggestions.
Bacon Butty v Baked Bean Pitta – Fatty, salty bacon is a no no. Opt for a small tin of reduced salt and sugar baked beans in a wholemeal pitta for a slow release of energy and a shot of vitamin B.
Full English v Two Poached eggs on toast – ditto. Two poached eggs on a slice of wholemeal toast will give a much healthy dose of slow release carbs, protein and an injection of Cysteine. Cysteine helps to mop up the harmful chemicals that biuld up in the liver as a result of metabolising alcohol.
Latte and a danish v Bowl of muesli – a large full fat Latte and a sweet danish will easily top 500calories and it will be high in saturated fat and sugar. 40g of no added sugar muesli with fruit and nuts will give you sustained enery plus a magnesium and vitamin B boost. Team this with 200ml of skimmed milk and it will rehydrate you and sooth that iritated stomach.
Fast food burger v Grilled chichen bun – a Big Mac will fill you up but only temporarily. 125g of grilled chicken in a granary bun with a squirt of tomato ketchep and some spinach will give you an energy boost, vitamin B and a shot of magnesium which is depleted by drinking alcohol.
3 Units (2 125ml glasses of wine) for a woman and 4 units (2 pints of beer) for a man are the safe limits. This may not sound much but is enough to relax you and help you have a good time with feeling ill the next day.
Not drinking on an empty stomach and alternating the alcohol with a soft drink are other good tips to enjoying your self without paying theprice.
